Abbie 1982年出生於澳洲小農村，父親自營事業當老闆，母親是業餘攝影師，她上有一個哥哥，還有兩個弟弟與一個妹妹 ( Isabelle )，13歲開始她的模特兒生涯，她的第一份工作在15歲時，參與澳洲廣播製作的影集「Children's Hospital」，同時也參加 Dolly 雜誌海選攝影模特兒。16歲還在念高中的她已經一邊在電視台觀摩了。17歲以 ABC 電視台影集「Wildside」中 Simone Summers 一角獲得澳洲電影學院頒發的最佳年輕演員獎，也因為此角，她得到了第一部電影「The Monkey's Mask」的演出機會。

 

2001年19歲的她因為參與熱門澳洲當地電視影集「Outriders」演出，讓她初嘗真正走紅的感覺。2005年在「Somersault」( 我行我愛 ) 中飾演叛逆女孩角色，獲得了許多澳洲電影獎提名獲選，更在邁阿密影展中得到最具突破表演獎。2006年 Abbie 進軍好萊塢，與同為澳洲同鄉的 Heath Ledger 合作「Candy」( 迷幻甜心 ) 獲得影評人一致讚賞，同年的「A Good Year」( 美好的一年 ) 中也是與同為澳洲演員 Russell Crowe 一起合作。隔年的「The Golden Age」( 伊莉莎白：輝煌年代 )，Abbie 終與她的偶像 Cate Blanchett 一起合作了。

 

2009年 Abbie 參與了著名導演 珍康萍 的作品「Bright Star」( 璀燦情詩 ) 演出，這部浪漫愛情片在坎城影展吸引了眾多目光， Abbie 也因此被封為 Nicole Kidman 接班人，但我個人覺得她與 Charlize Theron 神韻更為相似。早期的「迷幻甜心」「我行我愛」都是比較狂放激情的演出，近年，無論是在「璀燦情詩」或者是瑪丹娜欽點她演出的「W.E.」( 溫莎公爵的情人 ) 都可以看到 Abbie 收歛的情緒及平穩的神情。可放可收的演技讓「Candy」的導演 Neil Armfield 與「Bright Star」的導演珍康萍至今都對她讚譽有佳呢!!
